Travelling for Competition, with Tracy Fleury & Amanda Gates

Tracy Fleury and Amanda Gates have curled together since 2004. From their home base of Sudbury they've done their share of travelling for competitive curling, from early years at three junior nationals to recent years at the adult Grand Slams and two trips to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Representing Northern Ontario means travelling for most of your competitions. Tracy and Amanda have handled every imaginable condition from illnesses and transportation delays, to poor weather conditions and dietary dilemmas. We can think of no better duo to deliver our ROCKTalk on Travelling for Competition!

In addition to their demanding competitive schedule, all five have full time jobs. Tracy is an accountant at Laurentian University. Amanda is a broker at PBL Insurance, Sudbury.

A famous curler once said: "you're not truly a competitive curler until you travel long distance to a competition". For many of us, travelling can be demanding on our physical and mental endurance. How do you eat properly, sleep well and stay on your routine?

This talk offers tips from the pros on how to prepare, pace yourself and stay healthy when travelling a long distance to a curling competition.  There's more to it than remembering your toothbrush!TeamFleury.jpg

Team Fleury has secured a position for the 2018 Olympic pre-trials. They have competed in 11 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling events including a career-best runner-up finish at the National.

This ROCKTalk is free for all registered U18 Atlas Slam teams, $20 for all others.
