U21 Mixed Doubles Qualifier Set for Truro, NS Feb 15-17

The Junior Slam Series second Nordic Junior Curling Tour U21 Mixed Doubles Qualifier is set for February 15-17, 2019 at the Truro Curling Club in Truro, Nova Scotia.  U21 Mixed Doubles teams from Atlantic Canada will be given the chance to showcase their skills in Truro in February with the event winner getting the opportunity to represent the Junior Slam Series at the Nordic Junior Curling Tour MD Championships in Stockholm, Sweden April 26-28.

Mixed Doubles is going to take off at the junior level in Canada.  It is a great format and exciting game to play and watch.  We wanted to provide a unique opportunity for young athletes to experience with the trip to Sweden. Being able to work closely with the Nordic Junior Curling Tour to bring this to life is fantastic and we know that the experience is one these young curlers will remember for a long time. This pilot project has been in the works for some time and we hope to expend the opportunity to more provinces next season.

Byron Scott – Junior Slam Series

The Truro Curling Club was quick to jump on board and make this event happen this year.  This marks the 4th Junior Slam event in Atlantic Canada in 2 years. CFB Halifax has been a terrific host of the Nautilus Slam for 2 years and Thistle St Andrews in St John provided New Brunswick’s first Junior Slam, the Aquarius, this past fall.

We love the Maritime environment and the support we are getting out there.  In 2019 we will be expanding our footprint with the U21, U18, U15, and Mixed Doubles formats in the Maritime provinces and have been networking with area clubs to enhance the opportunity for young curlers to compete.  There is fantastic talent, great people, and wonderful opportunities to explore and we look forward to providing these unique opportunities along the way.

Byron Scott – Junior Slam Series

Registration for the U21 Qualifier is now open.  We look forward to seeing some terrific curling in a few short weeks in Truro.

Please Note: While this event is open to entries from outside Canada, only a Canadian team can represent the Junior Slam series in Sweden. Should a non-Canadian team win, the highest finishing Canadian team would be selected to represent the Junior Slam Series at the NJCT Championships.
